The book ‘Aaina-e-Mutan’ by Munshi Abdul Rahman Khan is an important document concerning the history of Multan. The chapters of the book examine every aspect of the ancient and modern history of the city of Multan under various headings. In this video, two essays from this book have been read. The first essay discusses the abundance of gold in ancient Multan, mentioning that Muhammad bin Qasim discovered a large treasure of gold in a house. It also references a golden idol upon which people offered sandalwood offerings, which were a source of income for the priests of the temples. The second essay reviews the developmental works in the city under British rule. In it, the author praises the British colonial period quite a bit. Particularly, I completely disagree with the last sentence of the video, as the peace and tranquility available in freedom cannot be found in enslavement.

منشی عبدالرّحمٰن خان کی کتاب” آئینہءِمتان”، تاریخِ ملتان سے متعلق اہم دستاویز ہے۔ کتاب کےابواب میں مختلف عنوانات کےتحت شہرِ ملتان کی قدیم وجدید تاریخ کاہرپہلو سے جائزہ لیاگیاہے۔ اس ویڈیومیں اس کتاب سےدومضامین پڑھے گئے ہیں۔ پہلےمضمون میں بتایاہےکہ قدیم ملتان میں سونےکی کیسی بہتات تھی۔ محمد بن قاسمؒ نے بہت بڑا سونےکا ذخیرہ ایک گھر سے دریات کیا۔ ایک سونےکےبُت کابھی تذکرہ ہے،جس پرلوگ صندل کی لکڑی کے چڑھاوے چڑھاتے تھے جو بت خانوں کے مہنتوں کی آمدنی کاذریعہ تھے۔ دوسرےمضمون میں برطانوی حکومت کےزیرِاثراس شہر میں ترقیاتی کاموں کاجائزہ لیاگیاہے۔ اس میںمصنف نے برطانوی استعمار کی تعریفوں کے پل باندھ دیے ہیں۔ خصوصاً ویڈیو کےآخری جملےسے آوازِاردوقطعاً متفق نہیں، کیوں کہ جوسکون و اطمینان آزادی میں میسر ہے، غلامی میں کہاں مل سکتاہے؟۔
